  • Restart ticket estimation for team ILL - each member should estimate their own tasks at the start of the sprint
  • Each ticket that is "testable" must have a test case linked to it in JIRA
    • For team ILL, any ticket that moves to review must have a test case or it will be moved back to todo
    • For team parrort, any time team ILL notices a ticket in review, QA, or Done - we will mention Pawel Gesek and Joanna Bebak

Sprint 32 Team Parrot & Team ILL

August 3 - 16, 2017

Showcase Video

OpenLMIS Sprint Showcase-20170816 1403-2.arf

Stats

Team Parrot finished 41.5 story points; Team ILL finished 31 story points:

(Team Parrot on the left; Team ILL on the right; Team ILL graph looks unusual because points estimates were only added 2/3rds through the sprint)

Retrospectives

Team ILL: We held this retrospective with paper sticky notes, not digitally, so here are the 4 key areas to improve:

  1. QA: "Continue implementing the QA process" (with test cases, etc), plus "have more dedicated QA resources". (On that latter point, we did not decide how to do that.) Sam Im (Deactivated) will lead the continued QA process from Team ILL side.
  2. Core and Malawi Implementation Collaboration: "Team Malawi commits people to the core sprint (who join the core software development cycle)"; or "merge the teams back together as soon as we can". (The plan is to be worked out by Ben Leibert and Brandon Bowersox-Johnson coordinating with both teams.)
  3. UI Changes: "Flag UI changes early and circulate to PC with a clear value statement documented". "New process to flag UI changes to Product Committee at each meeting (maybe a 15-minute slot at PC and using a label in JIRA)". Mary Jo Kochendorfer (Deactivated) can you lead this process change?
  4. Getting Tickets to Done: Identify the key tickets this sprint and check with Paweł Gesek to make sure they are spread around to developers to get them all done. Brandon Bowersox-Johnson will do this.

Plus, some tickets in the sprint now include their own video showcase recordings for important new features. See 8 tickets tagged 'videoShowcase' in Sprint 33. Inside these tickets, the comments or links will contain a Video Showcase YouTube link.

Stats

Team Parrot finished 74 story points; Team ILL finished 18 story points*:
*These numbers are as of the Showcase meeting; the sprint was extended 1 extra day for final 3.2.0 release activities, so the points completed may end up higher. See Sprint Report.

(Team Parrot on the left; Team ILL on the right; Team ILL graph looks unusual again because points estimates were only added 2/3rds through the sprint)

Retrospectives

Team ILL: None. Team ILL held a mini-retrospective to talk about what went well, but nothing else (did a release 3.2.0 planning session instead). Update: on Friday, Sept 8, 2017, Team ILL held a meeting about all the issues found during/after the release of 3.2.0 with ideas about how to improve the release process. Retrospectives

Team ILL: We idenfitied 4 specific improvements to how we use tickets to communicate new work between Team ILL and Team Parrot:

  1. Hold ticket-writing workshop in person with Nikodem and Sebastian. By end of workshop, we would have made tickets for stock-based requisitions.
  2. Help the leads at SolDevelo understand the context/users better. They will ask questions to catch issues before Team ILL catches at Showcase.
  3. At Sprint Q&A, have Team Parrot present the tickets to explain their understanding of scope
  4. Team Parrot updates functional documentation (by adding ticket numbers to the workflow sections as they are completed) similar to how we had them update the config guide.

Sprint 44 Team Parrot & Team ILL

4 - 17 Jan 2018

Showcase Videos

Showcase Meeting:

Audio only: GMT20180117-145735_OpenLMIS-S.m4a

Stats

Team Parrot finished 40 story points (below). Team ILL finished 9 tickets (most tickets had no story points this sprint). → See Sprint 44 Report

Retrospectives

Team ILL: We talked about pain points around ticket writing and about successful practices from our past experience that we could apply to OpenLMIS ticket writing:

  1. Have more back-and-forth discussion and revisions of tickets/feature ideas.
  2. Team ILL ticket writing should focus more on the why and the context of the user story; Team Parrot can write more into the ticket to focus on technical details and how.
  3. Use narrative to capture a larger set of features (Josh shared an example). Then individual tickets come from that.
    1. Alternative: Since many of our learning styles suffer with narrative, consider using mockups or visuals to capture this rather than only narrative.
