Bottom-Up Quantification (BUQ)
Goals/Scope
The Bottom-Up Quantification (BUQ) feature represents a significant advancement in the field of healthcare supply chain management, specifically in the context of demand forecasting and inventory management. This functionality is designed to automate the process of quantifying medical supplies and pharmaceuticals needed at various levels of the healthcare system, from local clinics to regional hospitals, thereby ensuring that the right quantities of medical supplies are available where and when they are needed. This automation reduces human error, increases efficiency, and enables more accurate forecasting of medical supply needs, ensuring that healthcare facilities are better equipped to meet patient needs.
Background
Following the implementation of Essential Health Commodities (EHC) Quantification Guidelines since 2019, much has happened due to various changes in the supply chain of health commodities. One of the key milestones in recent years is the full automation of bottom-up quantification process leveraging OpenLMIS platform. This change necessitates capacity building to healthcare workers across all levels of supply chain to be able to use the automated processes for demand forecasting.
