Status Update

@Chongsun Ahn (Unlicensed)

  • Setup of v2, v3, and the v3 reporting stack

  • Created working pipeline for requisitions

    • Currently just a proof of concept, but working well

      • Currently just supporting the requisition table

    • Process:

      1. Changes in v2 get streamed into Kafka (housed in the reporting stack)

      2. Data Transformations

      3. Streamed into v3

    • Near “realtime” data flow

    • Very little coding involved, just using tools as designed

    • Most of the work will be in transforming the v2 data to get streamed into v3

      • Patterns created now should help us if/when we need to extend this approach for other areas of the system

      • This should be an area that Ian can help out with, once those patterns are established

    • Chongsun has pushed this work to a branch (casper-wip) of the refdistro repository

      • @Chongsun Ahn (Unlicensed) to add link to branch

Project Scope

@Chongsun Ahn (Unlicensed), @Alfred Mchau

Alfred: Keep the scope small, focusing on requisitions but implement so that it is easier to expand the scope in the future

Chongsun: Need to create automated deployment scripts as part of this work as well

Project Expectations and Timelines

@Alfred Mchau

Alfred needs to have something ready to showcase in early July alongside demos of v3

It would also be helpful to have an answer for how to handle a possible migration from v2 to v3

  • Would there be downtime?

  • What effect on the usage of the system during the migration?

Action items

@Alfred Mchau TZ data for testing. Just need a few requisitions, facilities and products to start
@Chongsun Ahn (Unlicensed) Create tickets for work with Ian (maybe use a specific label or other way to group this Casper-related tickets?)
@Wesley Brown Create meeting page
@Wesley Brown Add root page for Casper-related content on wiki
@Chongsun Ahn (Unlicensed) Discuss the possible involvement of Philip Garrison with Josh/Brandon/Philip (starting soon in Seattle, working through the summer). @Wesley Brown to help as needed

Decisions

  1. @Chongsun Ahn (Unlicensed) To provide a system demo next week
